Other Therapies We Use in the UK

The Elsa Protocol forms the foundation of our work, guiding how we assess and support binocular vision and visual perception development.

Where appropriate, we integrate additional therapies to support regulation, sensory processing, and neurological organisation, allowing the nervous system to be more receptive to visual perceptual work.

These therapies are not used in isolation, but as part of a carefully considered, individualised programme.

Tomatis® Listening Therapy

Tomatis is used to support auditory processing, attention, language development, emotional regulation, and learning readiness.

We use the latest Maestro® headset, which allows sessions to be:

  • Comfortable

  • Straightforward to use

  • Delivered either in the clinic or at home

New remote features are being introduced later in the year, further expanding home-based options.

Tomatis is often used alongside Visual Perceptual Therapy to help improve overall sensory integration and neurological readiness.

Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)

Developed by Dr Stephen Porges in the USA and grounded in Polyvagal Theory, the Safe and Sound Protocol supports:

  • Nervous system regulation

  • Anxiety and stress responses

  • Social engagement and emotional resilience

SSP is particularly helpful for individuals experiencing anxiety, trauma responses, or sensory sensitivity, including those with a history of chronic stress or PTSD.

This programme can be completed at home, with professional guidance and support.

Syntonics / Optometric Phototherapy

Syntonics (light therapy), informed by the work of Denise Hadden, is used to support:

  • Visual processing efficiency

  • Neurological balance

  • Visual comfort and stamina

Syntonics complements Visual Perceptual Therapy, Tomatis, and SSP by helping regulate the visual system and improve how visual information is received and organised by the brain.

Light therapy can be delivered:

  • At home, or

  • In an office-based setting

depending on individual needs and programme structure.

Primitive Reflex Assessment and Integration

Retained primitive reflexes can interfere with:

  • Posture and balance

  • Coordination

  • Attention and visual-motor integration

We assess primitive reflexes as part of our developmental approach and, where appropriate, use targeted movement activities to support neurological maturation and integration.

This work enhances the effectiveness of visual perceptual and sensory-based therapies by supporting the body-brain connection.

How These Therapies Work Together

Each therapy supports a different aspect of nervous system function.

Together, they help to:

  • Improve regulation and readiness for learning

  • Reduce sensory and cognitive overload

  • Support binocular vision and visual perception development

  • Enhance the effectiveness of visual perceptual therapy

Programmes are always individualised, and not every therapy is used with every client.

Flexible Delivery Options

Depending on location, age, and individual needs, programmes may include:

  • Office-based sessions

  • Home-based therapy with professional guidance

  • A combination of both

This flexibility allows therapy to fit realistically into family and adult life while maintaining therapeutic integrity.

Optional closing line

When regulation, sensory integration, and visual perception are supported together, progress becomes more sustainable and meaningful.
